Detective Jack

We drink room-temperature water in our house, almost without exception. But, I happened to have a large bottle of water in the fridge today (random reason). I poured some into a Mason jar to drink, and set it next to me in the living room.

Jack (5) came over and said: "Where did you get that freezing cold water?"

I thought that was odd. "How did you know it was cold?" We don't drink cold water.

"Because. The glass has some water on the outside."

Hmm. He's like Encyclopedia Brown, this kid. When I probed about how he knew about condensation, all he could offer was, "I just know!"

I love.love.love how children explore their world, taking notes at every given moment. You never know when these observations will pop up.
